Interview with girls on track

PUNCH Flybrid has joined fellow Silverstone Park business Enovation Consulting as an official STEM partner in the UK to FIA Girls on Track – a global programme that aims to encourage more young women to consider careers in motorsport.

The two businesses will teach coding skills to hundreds of girls aged 8-24 years old as part of Girls on Track’s extensive reach in the UK which is overseen by the national motorsport governing body, Motorsport UK.

PUNCH Flybrid MD Tobias Knichel said he was looking forward to his business – which is innovating in energy saving technology for heavy duty industry sectors – contributing to the next generation of motorsport and engineering professionals.

“We are always keen to support girls in engineering and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) projects and it is something close to my heart – I have a young daughter myself,” commented Tobias.

“Girls On Track is also helping motorsport and engineering by promoting them to girls and women – having diversity in the workforce helps a business to think better, come up with different solutions and be more productive.

“Above all, the programme can really help to improve an imbalance that exists across the engineering sectors.”

PUNCH Flybrid Sales Co-ordinator Claire Waterson, who will lead PUNCH Flybrid’s activity within Girls on Track, added: “Our vision is aligned that this programme does an amazing job at showing young girls that careers in motorsport and STEM are open to everyone.

“The partnership of two innovative sustainability companies coming together as Official STEM Partners also shows the importance of this field within engineering.”

Enovation, based in Silverstone Park’s Innovation Centre, has been part of Girls on Track since 2021.

Founder Cristiana Pace, also a Girls on Track ambassador, enthused: “I have been privileged to see it grow into a thriving programme and community that delivers real impact in encouraging and inspiring young women to consider a career in motorsport.

“Through our continued partnership, we look forward to supporting this important work long into the future, making coding and engineering accessible to even more girls in an engaging, playful way and building the foundations for a more diverse motorsport industry.”

Motorsport UK CEO Hugh Chambers said: “Enovation Consulting has been a valuable partner of Girls on Track UK for two years and we’re pleased to welcome PUNCH Flybrid as a new partner.

“Motorsport UK’s Girls on Track UK programme is designed to inspire and encourage more girls into our sport in a fun, dynamic and engaging way.

“Enovation Consulting and PUNCH Flybrid will provide real industry insight into STEM subjects. We look forward to working with them both and continuing the momentum of Girls on Track UK.”
